A Study on Whole body vibration and disorders of the spine

Abstract
This study presents a critical evaluation of the literature on health effect in long term occupational exposure to whole body vibration. The most frequently reported adverse effects are low back pain, early degenerat
ion of the lumber spinal system
and
herniated lumber disc. No study can confirm the causality of vibration and abnormality. But, because most studied show a strong tendency in a similar direction, it may be concluded that long term exposure to whole body vibration is harmful to
spinal
system. The results do not yet permit firm conclusion or exposure-response relationships. Further epidemiologic research, particularly of high risk group, is needed.
